I’m posting this tiny little instructional for all of those people out there who, like me, find the iMovie interface difficult due to only occasional use.
This tutorial was last updated: October 2016
How to export to a new YouTube account in iMovie
For a piece of reasonably generic software, iMovie has the simply lovely feature of exporting and uploading to YouTube for you.
The challenge is working out how to add or change your YouTube account. It’s especially difficult if you don’t use iMovie very often. (Like me.)
The first thing you need to know is that the settings are not in your preferences. So stop clicking it hoping that it’s going to appear. It won’t.
The process feels backwards: You have to export before you change it
I know, crazy. If I was on that Ux team… ahem. Anyway.
What you have to do is go to File > Share > YouTube. You can see mine is already logged into an account:
Click the YouTube account on the export screen to change it
When the export screen comes up, you see a preview, the title, a description, and the tags you’ve applied. Heads-up: You can edit those on this screen too. All you have to do is click them to change them.
The button is underneath your preview. Click it to change it, and follow the prompts.
And voila! You’re done!
Happy exporting! 🙂
Thank you. That’s been driving me mad for about half an hour!
My pleasure! It took me forever til I worked it out too, so I’m glad it’s helping other people! 😀
clicking the address button only opens the YouTube login. You’re still not able to change the address as it appears on the button.
Hi Summer, thanks for your comment. These instructions worked for me when posting to a different account as opposed to changing the URL. If you are looking to change the appearance of a URL, this is going to be unhelpful. Sorry I can’t help you! cheers, Leticia
