The Letter The Letter
from Leticia Mooney

G'day {name}

It's been a long time between reads, hasn't it. I was planning to handwrite you a letter and email that to you, but I haven't quite got there. And then I felt nudged to write to you regardless.

For you see, the world is overrun with ridiculousness. The Australian political landscape is either shattering Australia at a rate of knots, or tying itself into knots attempting to spin untrue things into truth. DigitalID is going to direct your life in crazy ways in a short period of time. Algorithms are making creatives panic in a way I haven't seen since the first ebooks were created. Big Tech - by which I include social media platforms like LinkedIn - have shadowbanning to a fine art, rendering them pretty well useless for connection. And 'artificial intelligence', is slated to hit a point this year that will change everything as we know it.

So they say.

But step outside and breathe the cold, sweetly salty ocean air and let the millipedes roam over your fingertips. Dig holes in the sand and listen to the birdsong. Stretch out your arms in the sunshine and feel the warmth of the greatest life-giver in our solar system warm you to the cockles.

Do that and you'll realise that everything that makes life crazy only exists online.

And so, today, I want to evangelise truth. The truth is that reality is not online and online is not reality.

The truth is that social media is not business, and business doesn't happen behind a screen.

The truth is that no matter where you find yourself in life, there is always something for which to be grateful.

We've all been hoodwinked in a sunk-cost fallacy that counts followers and heads and likes and reactions, to the point where we do pointless shyte instead of writing heartfelt emails where no public can see them.

Make no mistake: I do nothing remarkable. I write stuff.

You don't do remarkable things either. You might count things. Or facilitate healing. Or untangle society's laws. Or help people learn stuff.

My challenge to you today is to pull the hooks of technology out of your brain and come back to the real world, because when the world is pulled out from under you by forces you don't see until it's too late, I wonder if you'll be able?

xx Leticia

Did you know I am a sucker for lovely skincare products?

Yes, it's true. And there are some I have a long-standing (since teenagerhood) relationship with. So I decided to sell it for friends and family, which includes you. What is it? Click here.
